Chapter 140 :  The more you accumulate, the more you will suffer

An elderly lady from Shivamogga district came to Gurunatha’ s house one day. When Gurunatha enquired why she was there, she started like this..

“Sir, my husband has some property and also works as a purohit (freelance priest). We have two sons and three daughters. My husband has served Sringeri mutt under Sri Sri Chandra Shekhara Bharathi, l have received the initiation of Rama nama by Varada halli Sridhara Swamiji. Yet our life is not peaceful, the main reason being my second son is mentally disturbed. He is very temperamental, does not listen to anyone, sometimes if he starts bathing.. he does it all day. He lives in extremes. He is about to cross marriageable age; I am worried if we can get him married. Please give me a remedy and cure my son’s illness.

Gurunatha in his reply told the lady. “See now you are blaming your son for everything, everybody commits mistakes.. Have you not committed any?”

The lady replied in the negative and said she has never committed any mistake. It seemed Gurunatha was now angry with her.. He raised his voice and asked “When you were pregnant with this child, did you not take a pill trying to terminate the pregnancy?

She meekly replied “yes”.

Gurunatha continued,” when you have no power to create a new life, how can you end it? You went against Guru’s wish and now you do not want its effects, how is that possible?”

The lady at this point confessed she has committed mistakes and asked Gurunatha what could be done now?

Gurunatha in his reply gave her a few remedies and also said. “Later a Guru will come, and then things will be set right.” This has come true today.

Gurunatha also told her... “Once you go back, give away the utensils and white dhotis you have stored in your cupboard. The more you accumulate, the more you will suffer”. The lady did as advised, when she reached her home.

Chapter 139 :  “See.. Come here, Gurunatha has come”

The lady closed her eyes and became silent for some time, probably recounting a few more of her experiences. A few minutes later she started again on her own.. “ l was blessed when I visited Gurunatha’s house in 1995. After 1997 I started visiting him regularly.

Once he called me and said, “You accept the world as your Guru, then you will learn a lot of things”. Not knowing the meaning of the word ‘Guru’ I used to fight with him, I almost treated him as a friend. Today, looking back I feel sorry for the way I conducted myself before that great person.

This Charanadasa asked her a question at this point, “Did you never ask any questions about your current material life?”

“Never” she replied emphatically. She added that Guru also never asked her about that. But once in 2005, he called my husband and told him.”l am seeing 10/ 1, the papers of that plot don’t seem to be in order. Please get them corrected, if not done; you shall face problems in future”. But, we never took his words seriously and as a result today we are making rounds to the court.

Once when we had come to Gurunatha’s house, he asked my husband,” Can you stay without your wife for 10 days?”

My husband replied ‘Yes’.

Then he went back to Mangalore and I stayed at Guruantha’s house for about 10 days. During this stay Gurunatha in his own special way taught me ‘How to be in.. while not being particularly in it’(detached view of the world).

Later we started seeing our duty as our ‘Guru’, we used to visit Gurunatha about 2 times a year. Once we met him Chickmagalur. He said, “I will surely visit your house.” He had kept us with him till about 10pm and then came personally up to where we boarded our car to see us off. But, due to illness he could not come to our house.

Three days from the day he left this world, around 11-45 in the morning, my husband was calling me..

“See come here, Gurunatha has come”. I ran towards him. In our office we saw Gurunatha sitting on a chair. When both of us bowed to him, he smiled and blessed us with his hand up in air and then he suddenly disappeared. Gurunatha had said, he will come to our house and he had kept his word. She was staring at the chair where Gurunatha had given darshana and was quiet for some time.

With this kind of an experience, how can I say my master is not with me anymore? Also, this is the reason why I don’t feel like leaving the four walls of this house. When my Guru’s compassion, grace everything is here why should I go anywhere else?

Also, Gurunatha had told me.. “Everything has been done for you, you need not do much, if possible do paduka puja and visit vedikes(tombs of saints). After this I gave away many different idols I used to worship. When he is ingrained in me, I don’t need anything else has been my belief.

Chapter 138 :  At Ballaleshwara temple

Gurunatha has been an ocean of compassion giving us numerous life experiences through his miracles. However, this Charanadasa feels the one going to be narrated below really stands out from the rest. This incident also gives us a glimpse of our Gurunatha’s life when he was working at Ballaleshwara temple at Sakharaya Patna.

This Charanadasa vaguely remembered that Mangalore based couple; one of my relatives recently gave the contact details telling me this couple was known to Gurunatha as early as 1970 and they might help me in my endeavor of collecting these memories of my Gurunatha.

I called the number given and gave my introductions. l was overcome by emotions by what I heard from the other side. They were so affectionate towards me thanks to Gurunatha’s compassion. They asked me to visit them on a Sunday. As I landed there on a Sunday they made preparations for a Pada Puja because I was a disciple of their Gurunatha. l bowed to them and politely conveyed my inability to accept their Pada puja. I started my conversation by a requesting them to share their experiences.

The lady started first. “See as you probably know, we were not regular visitors to Gurunatha’s house, in spite of that the experiences my master has given us during that time are unparalleled. I shall try and recount some of them”.

“We first saw Gurunatha in 1970. Just prior to that, our farms were getting dry without proper rains for years. Some people suggested that we should perform abhisheka(offering milk,curd other liquids including water) to RishyaShringeshwara (Lord Shiva temple in Kigga near Sringeri, where offerings are made appealing for rain or for reducing rain). Then someone who was working as a priest with us and later on moved to Sakharaya Patna, suggested that we should perform abhisheka to Ballaleshwara temple in Sakharaya Patna. So, we decided on that and went to Sakharaya Patna in three cars, with eleven priests and carrying various puja items with us.

Ekadasha rudrabhisheka was performed to our satisfaction and during the mangalarati(concluding part of the ritual) the priest went into deep dhyana for some time. Then that person took us to his home offered us food and water and bid farewell to us. Later we came to know he was the administrator of the temple as well. We traveled for about five hours to reach our home and had a surprise in store. There had been heavy rains near our farms and adjoining area of about two kilometer radius and the rain had started exactly when the priest went into dhyana. Next one or two years we went to offer our service to Ballaleshwara. But, after that due to our other personal commitments we could not visit in person, our relative used to visit Sakharaya Patna every year till about 1982. Later we started sending money through money order. After that our next visit to Sakharaya Patna was probably in 1994. The seer of advaitha peetha had visited Sakharaya Patna. A few boys who had cooked for us during our programs called and told us.. “There is Guru in Sakharaya Patna, he tells past, present and future exactly as they are/occur. You should see him once”. As usual, I sat for my dhyana but my mind was not still. Repeatedly I felt like I should visit Sakharaya Patna. I requested my husband and came to Sakharaya Patna with him. Entering the administrator’s house I was thinking who was the Guru there..”. A person who was lying down came out and asked who we were.. before we could answer.. he asked “You are from Mangalore isn’t it? After so many years you remembered this route? He took a small piece of paper which had money wrapped inside, giving it to us he said, I was thinking how to send it back, now you have come yourselves..

l was thinking how could he possibly remember and identify us after so many years..

Pointing at that piece of paper he continued.. “The people of the town insulted me and threw me out of the temple, I got a pot of water offered some to the Lord Shiva and put the remaining on myself told Lord Shiva our relationship had ended and came out.”

I was cursing myself for not recognizing such a great person earlier. He took us to his pujaroom and gave an opportunity for us to perform puja to padukas he had. Later, he offered us sumptuous food. When I asked him if I could perform Pada puja, he agreed without hesitation. lt surprised everyone gathered there as he had not accepted pada puja from anyone before. Then he blessed us and sent us back. Just when we were about to leave he said, “Aradhana (birth day celebrations) of Chandra shekhara bharti seer is coming shortly, you should come, and do keep visiting”. In those fifteen years I might have visited Gurunatha’s house for about five —six times.

This Charanadasa looked at her quizzing, trying to know the reason behind that. She continued “No matter how many times you see Guru, if you do not correct your mistakes, there is no point in those visits. From his first glance, I got everything required to correct my mistakes. I had got Guru in my thoughts, I wanted to keep him in my thoughts forever, I did not find it necessary to go there. Also, during that time we were in an undivided family and the family responsibilities kept me very busy.”

At this point, Charanadasa remembered what Gurunatha used to repeat many times.. “Once Guru’s vision falls on you, nothing else may be required; one will get everything he/she desires wherever he/she is”.

Chapter 137 :  Smallest wishes

A boy who had finished his engineering somehow came in contact with Gurunatha. He started visiting Gurunatha’s house on a regular basis after that. Over a period of time his attraction towards Gurunatha grew so much that he was coming to Gurunatha’s house from Bangalore every Saturday, participate in cooking food for devotees and various other services at Gurunatha’s residence and to return to Bangalore late on Sunday night.

Gurunatha was testing him very much in the beginning; he was scolded for small mistakes by Gurunatha. The boy was unperturbed and continued his service. After a few months, Gurunatha himself arranged an alliance for him and the boy got married. The bride was from small town near Chickmaglur.

Later he went to Andhra Pradesh for work. He used to come to his native once in about six months as leaves were hard to come by. One such instance when the couple was returning, the entire family had come to see them off at the railway station. His wife was worried when they will get to see Gurunatha again. She was praying intensely if only they could see Gurunatha once again before they left.

The train was expected in about two minutes. Just then Gurunatha descended at the railway station and blessed them. Though she was very happy that her wish of seeing Gurunatha was fulfilled, she felt a bit sad her happiness was very short lived as within a minute they would have to leave. Just then an announcement came over the public address system that the train was delayed by about fifteen minutes on that day.

Like this Gurunatha always responded to the smallest of his devotee’s wishes. All he expected was a pure state of mind from his devotees. Once he saw that, his compassion towards them was unparalleled.

Chapter 136 :  A Marriage that was to happen only at night

A person who was a lecturer in a prestigious college in Mysore was regularly visiting Gurunatha’s house. Gurunatha himself had arranged an alliance for him.

The boy and the girl had seen each other and they had finished the engagement ceremony as well and the marriage was scheduled in a marriage hall in Bangalore.

In between this, Gurunatha had called the parents on each side to his residence and told them that this marriage should not be performed during the day but should be performed during night. The parents were in a fix as they had already fixed the date/time of marriage and the marriage hall, they were thinking how this could be changed now.

Once the groom’s side relatives had come to buy clothes for the marriage to Hassan, as they finished their purchase they came directly to Gurunatha’s house. The bride’s side relatives were already at Gurunatha’s house unaware that groom will be there. As a coincidence all people had assembled at one place.

Gurunatha asked his wife to take the groom and the bride to puja room and asked aarti to be performed. He also instructed that the groom and the bride should hold their hands and walk together.

Once these rituals were done, Gurunatha said “I have done my job, now you can get marriage conducted anywhere you want to”.

During this time the groom’s sister was pregnant, it was very unlikely that she would attend the marriage and the impending delivery was a concern for the marriage date also.

Gurunatha called up the groom one day and said, “You should go and visit your sister, if your would-be agrees, you should take her along as well. As both families had immense belief in Gurunatha the groom took the bride along and went to visit his sister. They reached her house around evening 7pm. There he found that his brother-in-laws and their father were out of town on some business. Staying there overnight they were about start their return journey when his sister started crying inconsolably and even fell unconscious. Her blood pressure started fluctuating. As there was nobody else at home the couple was confused about their next step. The lecturer called up Gurunatha. But, Gurunatha did not respond properly. Now even more confused, the lecturer called up again after a few minutes. This time Gurunatha suggested she must be admitted to a hospital.

The doctor who attended told them, he can either save the baby or the mother but not both. Furher he wanted the consent letter to be signed before commencing the treatment. Her husband was contacted and consent letter was given on his behalf. Gurunatha was updated on all these events. Gurunatha suggested certain remedies to be performed over phone. By the next day afternoon the sister had delivered a healthy baby, both mother and the newborn were fine. By evening Gurunatha was also in the same town. After getting this news the groom and the bride visited the devotee’s house where Gurunatha was staying. Gurunatha made them sit in the puja room asked them to drink some milk and exchange garlands. They did as instructed.

Later Gurunatha said, “This marriage had to be performed at night. But, I wasn’t sure how to do it, today the opportunity presented itself, now you get married anywhere you want to..”. With these words he left the place. When asked about the reason behind his sister’s suffering, Gurunatha said it was because of an evil spirit.

The lecturer concluded his experience by saying.. “These events taught us how to be patient and get things done even when in adverse conditions and most importantly how you can face any situation if your Guru is with you .

ಭಕ್ತನಿಗಾಗಿ ಕಾದು ದರುಶನವಿತ್ತ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ 

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ಹನುಮನಾಥ ಅವಧೂತ ಆದಿಶೇಷಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟಾಚಲ ಅವಧೂತ ಗುರುನಾಥಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ, ಸರಸ್ವತಿ, ಸದ್ಗುರುಭ್ಯೋ ನಮಃ ॥

ಹೊಳಲೂರಿನ ಹನುಮಂತಪ್ಪನವರ ಪರಮ ಭಕ್ತರಾದ ಗುರುರಾಜ ಜೋಯಿಸರು ಗುರುನಾಥರನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸಖರಾಯಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ಹೋದರಂತೆ. ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಯಾದುದರಿಂದ ಮನೆ ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡು ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಹೋದರು. ಆಗಾಗಲೇ ಏಳೆಂಟು ಜನ ಬಂದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದರಂತೆ. ಜೋಯಿಸರು ಒಳ ಹೋಗಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನ ಪಡೆದು ಸಂತೃಪ್ತರಾಗಿ ನಮಿಸಿ - ಆ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತರಂತೆ. 

ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಬಹುಶಃ ಇವರಿಗೆ ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಡಲೆಂದೇ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಅದುವರೆವಿಗೆ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದರೇನೋ ಎಂಬಂತೆ, ತತ್ ಕ್ಷಣ ಎದ್ದು ಎದುರಿಗಿನ ರೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊರಟು ಹೋದರಂತೆ. ರೂಮಿನ ಒಳ ಹೋದವರು ಹೇಗೋ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬರಬೇಕಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಬಾಕಿಯವರು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಇದ್ದರು. 

ಇದ್ದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಂತೆ ನಾಲ್ಕೈದು ಕಾರುಗಳು ಬಂದವು. ಅದರೊಳಗಿಂದ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತರಂತೆ ಕಾಣುವ ಕೆಲ ಜನ ಇಳಿದು ಒಳಬಂದರಂತೆ. ಬಂದವರಿಗೆ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಗುರುಗಳು ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಬಿಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಭಾವ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಕಾಯ್ದು ಆ ಮಂದಿ ಗುರುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿದರು. ಯಾರು ಏನು ಹೇಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯ.... "ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಯಾರೋ ಆ ರೂಮಿನೊಳಗೆ ಹೋದರು" ಎಂದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಆ ರೂಮಿನೊಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬರುವ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಮಾಡುವವರು ಯಾರು? ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಓಡಾಡುವವರಿಗೆ, "ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ನೋಡಿ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡೋಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೀವಿ" ಎಂದಾಗ, ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಹೆದರುತ್ತಾ, ಆ ರೂಮಿನೊಳಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ರೂಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ನಂತರ ಆ ಬಂದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಹೋಗಿ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಸುಳಿವಿಲ್ಲ... ಇನ್ನೇನು ಮಾಡುವುದು, ತಮಗೆ ಬೇರಾವುದೋ ಕೆಲಸದ ತರಾತುರಿ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಆ ಕಾರಿನವರು - ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ನಾಯಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಿಸ್ಕತ್ತು ಹಾಕಿ, ತಾವು ತಂದ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟು ಹೊರಟು ಹೋದರಂತೆ. 

"ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೆ. ಅವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನನಗೆ ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ದಿನಗಳು ಬೇಕಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ, ಹೋದ ಕೂಡಲೇ ದರ್ಶನ ನೀಡಿ ಹರಸಿದರು. ನನ್ನ ಹಿಂದೆ, ಒಂದೆರಡು ನಿಮಿಷದಲ್ಲೇ ಬಂದ ಕಾರಿನವರಿಗೆ ಗುರು ದರ್ಶನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅದೂ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ  ಆ ರೂಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದವರು ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದರು? ಎಂಬ ಚಿಂತೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಆ ಮನೆಯವರಿಗೆ ತರೀಕೆರೆಯಿಂದ ಫೋನು ಬಂದಿತು. ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ 'ಗುರುನಾಥರು ತರೀಕೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸಧ್ಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ ತಮಗಾಗಿ ಕಾಯುವುದು ಬೇಡ' ಎಂಬ ನಿರೂಪವಿತ್ತು. ಅದನ್ನು ಆ ಮನೆಯವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತನಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ತಾನಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದು ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಭೋದೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೊಮ್ಮೆ ವಂದಿಸಿ, ನಾನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು ಬಂದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲೋ ಒಂದೆಡೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಗುರುವನ್ನೂ ಕಾಯಿಸಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟೆನಾ ಎಂಬ ಅಪರಾಧಿ ಭಾವವು ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣ ತಲೆ ಎತ್ತಿದರೆ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅವನಿಚ್ಛೆಯಂತೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದು. ತಮಗೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಕಾದಿದ್ದು ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಡುವ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಳಲೂರಿನ ಶ್ರೀ ಹನುಮಂತಪ್ಪ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಕೃಪೆಯ ಮೂಲವೇನೋ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಅನೇಕ ಸಾರಿ ಹೊಳಲೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ನಮ್ಮ ಗುರುಗಳ ಜೊತೆ ಅಪ್ಯಾಯಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಇದ್ದುದನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಬಹುದು. ಆ ಕರುಣಾಸಾಗರ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ನನಗಿಷ್ಟು ದರ್ಶನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ನೀಡಿದರಲ್ಲಾ ಎಂದು ಧನ್ಯತಾ ಭಾವವೂ ಬಂದಿತು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಭದ್ರಾವತಿಯ ಗುರಣ್ಣನವರು.

Chapter 135 :  Across life spans

A native of Javagal had settled down in Chickmaglur. He was in constant touch with Gurunatha. He had some farm land near Belavadi and he frequently used to visit the farms and some relatives who lived there. Whenever he came back from such visits Gurunatha used to tell him,” Enough with these relatives and farming, sell off those farmlands.” Around 1995-96, upon Gurunatha’s insistence and owing to some financial pressure, he had to sell those farm lands. But, one thing kept bothering him for quite some time..”Why was Gurunatha so insistent on selling those farm lands?” Within a few months from the time he sold the farms he got an answer to his question. The farms became dry as there was no water and there were no buyers for the farms anymore. The relatives who were dependent on farms were in dire straits and there was an exodus of farmers from that region. Guru’s compassion had saved him and his family from the impeding difficulties.

In another instance, a couple and daughter came to Gurunatha’s house. As they bowed to Gurunatha and stood in front of him, Gurunatha asked them about who they were and what brought them there.

The father spoke and said “Sir, this is my daughter; she is suffering from a peculiar disorder. Whenever she has periods she has severe bleeding, it will not stop for a long time. We have consulted many doctors but in vain. With these words he stood there with folded hands”.

Gurunatha thought for a while and asked him, “I want your daughter to do one thing, it may sound strange, hope you would not mind”.

The couple said “As per your wish Sir”.

Gurunatha got one of his devotees to buy a cigarette and give it to the young girl. He also said, “She should smoke it in the backyard and that is the medicine she needs”

The couple was shocked on hearing this, but recovered in a few minutes.

The girl with great difficulty had a few puffs and came back. Then Gurunatha explained the reason behind this strange remedy. He said,” Sir, your daughter was a man in her previous birth and was a chain smoker. When he was about to die, he died with a wish of smoking a cigarette, that desire has been fulfilled now. The unfulfilled desire was causing problem for this female body. From now on your daughter’s health should improve. The couple and their daughter bowed to Gurunatha and went away.

Charanadasa who was observing all this learnt that day.. Our present bodily ailments might be related to our previous births as well.

ಗುರುವಿನ ಅಗಲುವಿಕೆಯ ಕಾಣದ ತಳಮಳ 

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ಹನುಮನಾಥ ಅವಧೂತ ಆದಿಶೇಷಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟಾಚಲ ಅವಧೂತ ಗುರುನಾಥಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ, ಸರಸ್ವತಿ, ಸದ್ಗುರುಭ್ಯೋ ನಮಃ ॥

"ಸಂಜೆಯ ಏಳೂವರೆಯ ಸಮಯ. ಮಲೇಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನ ನನ್ನ ಮನೆಯಲಿ ನಾನಿದ್ದೆ. ಯಾರೋ ನನ್ನ ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಅವಧೂತರು, ಕೋಮಾರನಹಳ್ಳಿ ಮಠಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆಂದಾಗ, ನಾನು ಹೊರಟೇಬಿಟ್ಟೆ. ನನ್ನ ಮನೆಯವರೂ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆಂದರು. ಈ ಸಮಯದಾಗ ಗಾಡಿ ಇರಲ್ಲ, ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಲಿ ನಡೆದು ಬರುವುದಾಗಲ್ಲ - ಎಂದರೆ ಆಕೆ ಕೇಳಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ... ಇಲ್ಲಾ ನಾನೂ ಅವರ ದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿ ಬರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಹಠ ಹಿಡಿದು ಹೊರಟೇ ಬಿಟ್ಟಳು. ಇನ್ನೇನು ಮಾಡುವುದು ಬಾ... ಎಂದೆ. ಅವಧೂತರು ಈಗಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ.... ಮರುಕ್ಷಣ ಎಲ್ಲಿರುತ್ತಾರೋ? ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ನಾವು ಅಷ್ಟು ದೂರ ನಡೆದು ಬರಬೇಕು. ನಿನ್ನ ದರ್ಶನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಸಿಗಲೆಂದು ಮನದಲ್ಲೇ ಬೇಡಿದೆ. ಹೇಗೋ ನಮ್ಮಪ್ಪ ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗನ ಆಶ್ರಮ, ಅವನ ದರ್ಶನವಂತೂ ಆಗೇ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅವನ ಕರುಣೆ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನವೂ ಆಗೇ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆಂಬ- ಒಂದು ಒಳದನಿ ಹೇಳುತಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದದ್ದೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಅವನ ಚಿತ್ತ. ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ತಲುಪಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನ ನಾವಿಬ್ಬರೂ ಪಡೆದೆವು. ಭಕ್ತರ ಅಭಿಲಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಈಡೇರಿಸುವ ಕಾಮಧೇನು ಗುರುನಾಥರು" ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಲೇಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನ ಆ ಭಕ್ತ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರು ಹನುಮಣ್ಣನವರು. 

ಮತ್ತೆ ಅನೇಕ ಬಾರಿ ಈ ಭಕ್ತರು ಗುರುನಾಥರನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದರು. ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಜಗದ್ಗುರುಗಳನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಮಲೇಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಕರೆಸಿದ್ದರಂತೆ. ಸನ್ಮಾನ, ಸ್ವಾಗತ, ದಾನಗಳು ಜಗದ್ಗುರು ಪೀಠಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಂತೆಯೇ ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗ ಭಗವಾನರ ಈ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೂ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತ್ತು. ರಸ್ತೆಯುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ನಮಿಸುವವರೇ, ತೆಗೆತೆಗೆದು ಇವರ ಮಡಿಲಿಗೆ ಹಣ್ಣು ಹಂಪಲು, ಕಾಯಿ, ಬಟ್ಟೆ ನೀಡುವವರೇ. ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಅದೆಷ್ಟಾಗಿತ್ತೆಂದರೆ ಇವರೆಲ್ಲಾ "ಸಾಕ್ರಪ್ಪಾ... ನಾವು ತಗೊಂಡು ಹೋಗೋಕಾಗೋದಿಲ್ಲ, ಕೊಡುವುದನ್ನು ಸಾಕು ಮಾಡ್ರಿ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿ ಬಂದಿತು. "ಇಡೀ ಸಖರಾಯಪಟ್ಟಣ ಸಂಭ್ರಮಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಹಿನ್ನಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ, ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆ, ಯಾವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಕಮ್ಮಿ ಇಲ್ಲದಂತೆ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಹೊಂದಿಸಿದ ಅವರ ರೀತಿಗೆ ಅವರೇ ಸಮಾನರು - ಯಾವ ರಾಜ ಮಹಾರಾಜರೂ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಲಿಕ್ಕಾಗದು. ಇಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ಸೂತ್ರಧಾರರಾದ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಯಾವುದೋ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಇದು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೆಂದೂ ನಾವು ಕಾಣದ ಅವಿಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ ಘಳಿಗೆ" ಎಂದು ಸ್ಮರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಅವರು. 

ಅಂದು ಏಕೋ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಕಸಿವಿಸಿಯಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ರಾತ್ರಿಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ನಿದ್ರೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಏನೋ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಭಾವ, ಯಾವುದೋ ನೋವಿನ ಸುದ್ದಿ ತಲುಪಲಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ಆತಂಕ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಬೆಳಗಿನ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಮಹಾನಿರ್ವಾಣ ಪಡೆದ ಘೋರ ಸುದ್ಧಿ ಬಂದಿತು. ಸರಿಯಾದ ಬಸ್ಸುಗಳಿಲ್ಲ, ಏನೇನೋ ಮಾಡಿ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ತಲುಪಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಸಖರಾಯಪಟ್ಟಣ ತಲುಪುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮಯ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಎತ್ತ ಹೋಗಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯದೇ ನಿಂತಾಗ, ಅದ್ಯಾರೋ ಕಾರಿನವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತೋಟದ ಬಳಿ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದರು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ರಾತ್ರಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಇದ್ದು ಅವರಿಗೆ, ಅಂತಿಮ ನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ಒದಗಿಸಿದರು ಗುರುನಾಥರು. ಅವರ ಮೊದಲ ದರ್ಶನದಲ್ಲೂ ಅಪರಿಚಿತ ಕಾರಿನವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಕರೆದೊಯ್ದಿದ್ದರು. ಈಗ ಅಂತಿಮ ನಮನದಲ್ಲೂ ಅಪರಿಚಿತ ಕಾರಿನವರು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಭಕ್ತ ಕರುಣಾಸಾಗರರು. ಒಂದು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ನಾವು ಅವರ ಕಡೆ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ನಡೆದರೆ, ಅವರು ಹತ್ತು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆ ನಮ್ಮೆಡೆಗೆ ಬಂದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಹಿಡಿದು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಸಲಹುವ ಕರುಣಾನಿಧಿ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಮಾತನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. 

ಪ್ರಿಯ ಭಕ್ತ ಮಹಾಶಯರೇ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಕರುಣೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಒಬೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ರೀತಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದೆ. ಆ ಕರುಣೆ ನಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಮೇಲೂ ಇರುವುದರಿಂದಲೇ ಎಲ್ಲರ ವಿಚಾರಗಳೂ ಹೀಗೆ ನಿತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಸಂಗದ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ನಮನಿಮಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸಿಕ್ಕುತ್ತಿದೆಯಲ್ಲಾ, ನಾವೇ ಧನ್ಯರು. ನಾಳೆಯೂ ಬನ್ನಿ, ನಿತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಸಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಇರೋಣ.

A person who is working as a lecturer in Bangalore used to come to Gurunatha’s  home often. He was a close friend of mine and our acquaintance dated back to our college days.

Probably it was a year since he had joined as a lecturer in Bangalore, he had come to visit his native and from there he had come to meet Gurunatha.

When he was to return as per Gurunatha’s instructions, a devotee staying in Gurunatha’s house left with him towards Bangalore. When they were about to leave Gurunatha asked the lecturer “Do you have paper evaluation work?” The lecturer replied in the negative and told Gurunatha it requires at least 3 years of minimum work experience as a lecturer to qualify for paper evaluation duties. Gurunatha did not say anything but stared at him intensely for some time as they left.

After traveling some distance they stopped to attend nature’s call between Arasikere and Channaraya Patna. Just then the lecturer got a call. The caller informed him..

“You have been sent the qualification letter required to perform LlC paper evaluation. Please report valuation duty at the prescribed time”

The lecturer could hardly believe what he had heard, as it was almost impossible to get evaluation duty with just a year of experience. He concluded it was only possible through Guru’s grace.

He narrated another incident that occurred when he had come to his native place. “My mother was suffering from severe stomachache. The doctors did some tests and told us that she was suffering from hernia and an operation was necessary to set it right. The next day, l was to return back to my work. But, my mother’s health was equally important. Not knowing what to do next, I came to Gurunatha’s residence with my mother. Gurunatha was not in town. As I was already very tired, I slept off there. Around 3-30pm I woke up on hearing Gurunatha’s voice. He took me around the town and also to the Shiva temple. There while sitting under the peepal (sacred fig) tree I spoke about my mother’s health. He did not respond. Around 8pm we came back to

Gurunatha’s home.

lmmediately he looked at me and said, “Go near the peepal tree and get twelve leaves from there”. I did as instructed. Then giving them to me he said, this is the medicine for your mother. Everyday you should show one leaf to the sunlight and put it on your mother’s stomach. This is all that is required and she will get better. We offered our respects to Gurunatha and I returned to our house with my mother. My mother followed the routine suggested by Gurunatha for a few days.

“I am not sure whether you will believe me or not, from that day till date my mother has not been bothered by stomachache. An ailment which doctors had said would necessarily require an operation was cured by mere peepal (sacred fig) leaves; you can imagine how powerful a Guru can be”.

“I always think, for the compassion and grace Gurunatha has given me and my family, we don’t have anything to offer in return. All we can probably do is.. to have a good conduct as he was expecting us to do.”

ಅಯಾಚಿತ ಗುರು ದರ್ಶನ ಲಾಭ.... 

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ಹನುಮನಾಥ ಅವಧೂತ ಆದಿಶೇಷಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಓಂ ನಮೋ ಭಗವತೇ ಸದ್ಗುರು ಶ್ರೀ ವೆಂಕಟಾಚಲ ಅವಧೂತ ಗುರುನಾಥಾಯ ನಮಃ ॥

॥ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಾಗಣಪತಿ, ಸರಸ್ವತಿ, ಸದ್ಗುರುಭ್ಯೋ ನಮಃ ॥

ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗ ಭಗವಾನರ ಅನನ್ಯ ಭಕ್ತರೂ, ಮಲೇಬೆನ್ನೂರು ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳೂ ಆದ ಹನುಮಣ್ಣನವರು ನಮಗೆ ಇಂದಿನ ನಿತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಸಂಗಕ್ಕೆ, ತಮಗೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಮೊದಲ ಭೇಟಿ ಹೇಗೆ ವಿಚಿತ್ರ, ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆಯಿತೆಂಬುದನ್ನು, ಸತ್ಯ ನಿಷ್ಠುರರಾದ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ನೇರ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನು, ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ನಮಗೆ ಗುರುಕಥಾಮೃತವನ್ನು ಪಾನ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಗೆ ಜೈ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಅದನ್ನಾಲಿಸೋಣ ಬನ್ನಿ, ಗುರು ಬಾಂಧವರೇ. 

"ಅಂದು ನಾನು ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ಮಲೇಬೆನ್ನೂರಿನಿಂದ ಕೋಮಾರನಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಲು, ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಹೊರಟಿದ್ದೆ. ನಾವು ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಒಂದು ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಕಾರೊಂದು ಹಾರನ್ ಮಾಡಿತು. ಇನ್ನೂ ತುದಿಗೆ ಸರಿದೆವು ನಾವು. ಆದರೂ ಕಾರು ಹಾರನ್ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾ... ನಮ್ಮ ಸನಿಹ ಬಂದು ನಿಂತಿತು. ಇದೇನು ವಿಚಿತ್ರ ಎಂದು ಅತ್ತ ನೋಡಿದಾಗ - ಬಾಗಿಲು ತೆಗೆದು ಒಳಗೆ ಕೂರಲು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಏಕೆ, ಏನು ಎಂದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರವಾಗಿ ಅಪರಿಚಿತನನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ, ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಅರಿತಂತೆ, 'ಬನ್ನಿ, ಕೂತ್ಕೊಳ್ಳಿ. ನೀವು ಅವಧೂತರ ದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಲ್ಲ... ತಡವಾದರೆ ಅವರ ದರ್ಶನವಾಗದು. ನಾನೂ ಕೋಮಾರನಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಕಡೆಯೇ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಬನ್ನಿ ಪರವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ' ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಕಾರು ಓಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಬಳಿ ತಂದು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರೂ ಸಹ ಇಳಿದು ಬಂದು ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಗೆ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಹೊರಟುಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಹೀಗೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಮೊದಲ ಭೇಟಿಯಾದದ್ದು. ನಾವು ಕನಸು ಮನಸಿನಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯ ದೊರೆಯುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸರಳ ಉಡುಗೆಯ, ಧೀಮಂತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವದ ಗುರುನಾಥರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಅದೇನೋ ಆನಂದ, ಧನ್ಯತೆ ಭಾವ ಬಂದಿತ್ತು. ಹೋಗಿ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ದೂರವೇ ನಿಂತೆವು. ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೆನಾದರೂ ಕಂಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರು ರಂಗನಾಥ ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಕೆಳಗಿನ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದರು. ಕುಶಲೋಪರಿಯಾಯಿತು. ಬಹಳ ಸಂತಸವಾದನರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ನನ್ನ ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಆ ಕಾರಿನವರ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಮೆಲುದನಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವಿನಮ್ರವಾಗಿ - 'ಗುರುಗಳೇ ಈಗ ಬಂದು ಹೋದರಲ್ಲ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಪರಿಚಯವಿಲ್ಲ, ನನಗೆ ಅವರ ಪರಿಚಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದರ್ಶನ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಸಿಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರಲ್ಲ ಯಾರವರು?' ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ನಗುತ್ತಾ 'ಅದಕೇ ಯಾಕೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ತಲೆ ಕೆಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ತೀಯಾ... ಯಾರೋ ಒಬ್ಬರು ಬಂದ್ರಪ್ಪಾ.... ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದರು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಚಿಂತೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಡ' ಅಂದುಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನೇಕ ಜನ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರುವ ವಿಚಾರ ತಿಳಿದು, ಬೆಲ್ಲಕ್ಕೆ ಇರುವೆ ಮುತ್ತಿದಂತೆ - ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದು ಸೇರಿದರು".... 

ಒಳಗೆ ಕೂತಿದಾರಲ್ಲ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪಾದ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡಿ 

ಗುರುನಾಥರ ರೀತಿ ನೀತಿಗಳನ್ನು, ಅವರ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುವುದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಿಗೆ ಸುಲಭವಾಗಿ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲವೆನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಹನುಮಣ್ಣನವರು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಅಂದು ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನ ತಮಗೆ ಆದುದೇ ಪುಣ್ಯವೆಂದು ದೂರವೇ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೂ ಕೆಲವರು ಬಂದು "ದಯಮಾಡಿ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬನ್ನಿ... ನಿಮಗೊಂದು ಪಾದ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನಾದರೂ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆ" ಎಂದು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದ ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗ ಭಗವಾನರ ಭಕ್ತರು, ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಬೇಡಿದರಂತೆ. ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಉತ್ತರವೆಂದರೆ: "ಒಳಗೆ ಕೂತಿದಾರಲ್ಲಪ್ಪ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪಾದ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡಿರಿ. ಇವತ್ತು ನೀವು ಪಾದ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡ್ತೀರಿ ಅಂದ್ರೆ ನಾನು ಆ ಸ್ಥಿತೀಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಾ... ಒಳಗಿದಾರಲ್ಲ ಮಹಾನುಭಾವರು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪೂಜೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಸಾಕು" ಎಂದು ನಯವಾಗಿ ಆದರೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಧೃಡವಾಗಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಹೇಳಿದರಂತೆ. 'ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಒಳಗಾದರೂ, ಈ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳಿಂದ ಮೇಲೆ ಬನ್ನಿ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ, ಒಂಚೂರು ಏನಾದರೂ ಪ್ರಸಾದ ತೊಗೊಳ್ಳಿ' ಎಂಬ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದ ಭಕ್ತರಿಂದ ಬಂದಿತು. ಆದರೆ, ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಅದೇನು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದ್ದರೋ, ಅವರೇ ಬಲ್ಲರು. "ಯಾರಪ್ಪಾ ಅಲ್ಲಿ... ಓ ನೀನು ಮಠದವನಲ್ಲವೇನಪ್ಪ.. ಅದೇನು ಅಡಿಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರೋ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೇ ತೊಗೊಂಬಾರಪ್ಪ. ಬನ್ನಿ ನೀವು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಈ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೂತ್ಕೊಳ್ಳಿ. ನನಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲೇ ಬಡಿಸಿ... ತನ್ನಿ ತನ್ನಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಾ" ಎಂದರಂತೆ. ಗುರುವಾಕ್ಯವನ್ನು, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಅವಧೂತರ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಮೀರುವವರು ಯಾರಿದ್ದಾರೆ? ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಊಟದ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳೂ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲಿನ ಬಳಿಗೇ ಬಂದಿತು. ಅತ್ತ ನಾಲ್ಕು, ಇತ್ತ ನಾಲ್ಕಾರು ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಾಕಿದರಂತೆ. ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಬಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಸಂಗಡ ರಂಗಪ್ಪನ ಪಾದತಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಸಾದ ಭುಂಜಿಸುವ, ಆ ಸುಯೋಗ - ಅದು ಯಾರು ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಅಂದು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತೋ, ಅವರೇ ಧನ್ಯರು. ಇಂತಹ ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರೆಯುವುದು ದುರ್ಲಭ. ಮತ್ತೆ ಕೆಲವರು ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಗೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬರಲು ಒತ್ತಾಯಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಗುರುನಾಥರೆಂದರಂತೆ. "ಏನಪ್ಪಾ ಮೇಲೆ ಹತ್ತಿ ಬಂದು ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗ ಭಗವಾನರ ಆಶ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತುಬಿಟ್ಟರೆ, ನಾವೇನು ಅವರ ಸರಿಸಮಾನರಾಗಿ ಬಿಡ್ತೀವೇನಪ್ಪಾ. ಇದೇ  ನಮ್ಮ ಜಾಗ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿದೆ". 

ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಬಳಿ ಇರುವ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಕ್ಷಣಗಳೂ, ಗುರುವಿನಿಂದ ಬರುವ ಉಪದೇಶಗಳು ಅನರ್ಘ್ಯ, ಹಾಗೂ ಅಪರೂಪವಾದವು. ಅದು ಯಾರಿಗೋ, ಏನೋ ಅಥವಾ ತಮಗೆ ಎಂಬಂತೆ ಅವರು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ, ನಿಜ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟನ್ನು ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಪ್ರಸಾದಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಅದನ್ನರಿತು, ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯವೂ ಅವರ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದಲೇ ದೊರೆಯಬೇಕಿದೆ. 

ಗುರುವಿನ ಬಳಿ ಸಾರಲು, ನಾವವರ ಜೊತೆ ಒಡನಾಡಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಾಧನೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರಗಳು ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ಪುನೀತವಾದುದು, ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾದುದಿರಬೇಕೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಬಹುಶಃ ಗುರುನಾಥರಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತೋರಿಸಿದರೇನೋ. ಗುರುವೆಂದರೆ ಬಹು ದೊಡ್ಡದು. ಅವರ ಜೊತೆ, ಯಾವ ಜನ್ಮದ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಫಲದಿಂದ ನಮಗೆ ನಮನ, ಸಂಸರ್ಗ, ದರ್ಶನ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಒದಗಿದೆಯೋ. ಆದರೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಗಟ್ಟಿಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು, ನಿರಂತರ ಆ ಸದ್ಗುರುವಿನ ಸಹವಾಸದಲ್ಲಿರಲು, ಎಂತಹ ಭಕ್ತಿ, ಸಂಯಮ, ತ್ಯಾಗ, ಆರಾಧನೆಗಳು ಅನಿವಾರ್ಯವೆಂಬುದನ್ನು, ಗುರುವೆಂದರೆ ಒಂದು ಹುಡುಗಾಟದ ವಸ್ತುವಲ್ಲವೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮನದಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡಲೆಂದೇ ಅಂದು ಗುರುನಾಥರು, ನಿತ್ಯ ಲೀಲಾ ವಿನೋದ ವಿಹಾರಿಗಳು ಹೀಗೆ ವರ್ತಿಸಿದರೇನೋ? 

ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗುರುಕಥಾಮೃತ ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡ ಭಾರತ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಯರ ಮಗ ಹನುಮಣ್ಣನವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೀಗೆ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಿದರು.... "ಇದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ನಾನು ಅದೇನೋ ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ಗೌರವ ತೋರುತ್ತಾ ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಬಳಿ ಬಂದು - ಗುರುದೇವಾ ಇದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಲ್ಲೇ... ಹೀಗೆ.. ಏಕೆ.... ನಾನಂತೂ ಸಣ್ಣವನು. ನನಗೇನೂ ಅರ್ಧವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.... ಎಂದು ಬಿಟ್ಟೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕವರು 'ಅಲ್ಲಪ್ಪಾ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಪ್ರಸಾದ ತಿಂದರೆ ನಾವೇನು ಶಂಕರಲಿಂಗ ಭಗವಾನರ ಸಮಾನರಾಗಿ ಬಿಡ್ತೀವೇನು?" ಎಂದು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮಾರ್ಮಿಕವಾಗಿಯೇ ನುಡಿದರು. ಅಲ್ಲ ಗುರುಗಳೇ ನೀವು ದೊಡ್ಡವರು ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದರೆ... ಎಂದು ಮತ್ತೆ ನಾನು ರಾಗ ತೆಗೆದಾಗ ಗುರುನಾಥರು "ನೀನೇನು.... ನಾನೇನು ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಅಪ್ಪ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಶಿಷ್ಯರೇ, ನಮ್ಮ ಜಾಗ ಇದೇ.... ಅವರ ಪಾದದ ಬುಡದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ನಾವಿರಬೇಕಾದ್ದು" ಎಂದುಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಮತ್ತೆ ಮುಂದೆ ನನಗೆ ಅವರ ಜೊತೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುವ ಧೈರ್ಯ ಬರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಗುರುವಾಣಿಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌನಕ್ಕೆ ಶರಣಾಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟೆ. ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿಬಿಡುವವರೆಂಬುದು ನಾನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೆ. ಸದ್ಯ ಶಾಂತ ರೂಪ ದರ್ಶನ ಕೊಟ್ಟರಲ್ಲಾ ಎಂದು ಸಂತಸವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಅವರು ಹೇಳದೆ, ಕರೆಯದೇ, ಯಾರೂ ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಹೋಗುವಂತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಂತಹದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗಳು, ಇತರರು ಬೇಡ ಬೇಡವೆಂದರೂ ಅವರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಏನೋ ಕೇಳಲು ನೋಡಿದರೇನೋ, ಗುರುನಾಥರಿಗೆ ಅದೆಲ್ಲಿತ್ತೋ ಸಿಟ್ಟು. ಒಂದೇ ಸಾರಿಗೆ "ನೀನಿಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾಕಿದೀ. ನಿನಗಿಲ್ಲಿ ಇರೋದಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಹತೆ ಏನಿದೆ. ನೀನೆಂತಹ ತಪ್ಪು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀ" ಎಂದರಲ್ಲದೇ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕೆಲವರ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೂ ಖಂಡ ತುಂಡಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದಾಗ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನೆರೆದಿದ್ದವರೆಲ್ಲಾ ಸ್ತಬ್ಧರಾಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಅಷ್ಟು ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಆಶ್ರಮದ ಕೆಲ ಪ್ರಮುಖರು ಮೇಲೆ ಬಂದು ಹೋಗಬಹುದಿತ್ತಲ್ಲಾ ಗುರುನಾಥರೇ, ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ, ತತ್ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ "ಬೇಡಪ್ಪಾ ಇವತ್ತು ಬೇಡ... ಮುಂದೆ ಒಂದು ಕಾಲ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಗ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ.. ನೀವೇನೂ ಯೋಚನೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಡಿ" ಎಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆಶೀರ್ವದಿಸಿ ಕಾರು ಹತ್ತಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಹೊರಟೇಬಿಟ್ಟರು. ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ಸಾರಿ ಗುರುನಾಥರು ಆಶ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಒಂದು ತುಂಡು ಪಂಚೆಯುಟ್ಟು, ಎಲ್ಲೆಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲೆವ ಆ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರು ಬಂದದ್ದು ತಿಳಿಯುವುದು - ಅವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟು ಹೋದ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ.... ಏನೋ ಅಂತಹ ಮಹಾತ್ಮರನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯವಿತ್ತು. ಕಾರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕರೆಸಿ ಕರುಣಿಸಿದರು. ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ಗುರುನಾಥ ಕಥಾಮೃತಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊನೆಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಸದ್ಗುರುನಾಥ ಮಹಾರಾಜ್ ಕೀ ಜೈ... " ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣ ಈ ಭಕ್ತರು ಸುಮ್ಮನಾದರು. 

ಸನ್ಮಾನ್ಯ ನಿತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಸಂಗಾಭಿಮಾನಿ ಗುರುಬಂಧುಗಳೇ - ಗುರುನಾಥರ ಲೀಲೆಗಳು ಅವರ ಲಕ್ಷಾಂತರ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೂ, ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೆ ಒಂದೊಂದು ರೀತಿ ದರ್ಶಿತವಾಗಿದೆ. ನಾವುಗಳು ಕೆಲವರು ಗುರುನಾಥರ ದರ್ಶನವೇ ಆಗದೆ ಇದ್ದವರಿಗೆ - ಅನುಭವದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಂಡವರ ಹೃದಯಂಗತ ಮಾತುಗಳೇ ಗುರುನಾಥ ದರ್ಶನ ಸಮಾನ... ಇದು ನಿತ್ಯ ನಿರಂತರ ಸಾಗಲೀ... ನಾಳೆಯೂ ಬನ್ನಿರಿ ನಿತ್ಯ ಸತ್ಸಂಗಕ್ಕೆ, ಗುರು ಸಂಕೀರ್ತನಕ್ಕೆ.
