Chapter 129 : Eashwara
darshana
The two incidents narrated below
happened at different places and at different times. When both these incidents
occurred this Charanadasa was at Gurunatha’s residence.
Whenever Gurunatha was traveling
towards Mysore he always made it a point to visit Nanjanagud’s Nanjundeshwara
temple. He used to send his devotees there regularly for darshana as well. Once
he started towards Mysore in car belonging to a devotee from Hassan.
That night he stayed in Mysore, next
day morning he asked the owner of the car “Today you will enable us to see
Eashwara right?” The car owner did not understand the inner meaning of the
question so he just kept quiet. Then Gurunatha asked him to buy some mangoes.
He bought mangoes and kept them in the car.
The car started towards Nanjanagud.
They had traveled some distance when they saw a man who was totally oblivious to
the world; mud covered all over was walking on the road. Gurunatha asked the
car to be stopped immediately. Everyone got down from the car and Gurunatha
offered his respects to that man first. Later when the fruits which had been
brought for him were peeled off and given to him he accepted them. Gurunatha
offered some flowers at his feet and bowed to him. After that the person left
the place. The whole event was as if that person had come with the sole
intention of giving Darshana to Gurunatha. When he boarded the car again,
Gurunatha thanked the car owner.. “Sir, thanks to you we saw Eashwara today”.
In another instance, a couple from
Mangalore wanted to meet Gurunatha and had come down. Gurunatha met the couple
in a devotee’s house in Chickmaglur. They had come with a doubt in their mind.
Gurunatha told them, you shall get your answer very shortly, made them sit very
close to him and asked them to write several times the name of senior seer of
advaitha peetha. When they had finished one page a devotee came with a big photo
of the same seer. The children of the devotee were very close to Gurunatha and
they jumped and sat on his lap. When the couple looked up at that moment
towards Gurunatha they saw lord Dattatreya along with Anagha. The couple
immediately wrote on the book “We had a sighting of lord Dattatreya”. Gurunatha
nodded in agreement and put his signature below that statement.
In another instance, Gurunatha had
sent some devotees to Sringeri. He called them and said, “On your way back you
shall meet Eashwara, please make sure you give him some fruits and offer your
respects. As he had said, the devotees met a person who was stinking and
unclean. Devotees offered their respects to him and gave him some fruits.
On their return, one of the devotees
hesitantly put forth his doubt, “Guru, Who was that person? He was stinking
very badly”.
Gurunatha replied, “It was your good
fortune, Eashwara showed himself up for you”.
Gurunatha always used to say.. “You
never know in which form the God will appear before you, so never show
disrespect to any creature.”
