Chapter 124 :  A detached view about the world around

There were many instances where Gurunatha’s devotees bought car for him and came to hand over the keys. Then Gurunatha would just touch that key once and say “All right, this car belongs to me from now. But, you shall keep it with you. I will take it, whenever I need it.” With these words he would return those cars though some devotees would have got disappointed by this. It showed his detached view of material objects.

He would never want to take a thing belonging to someone else no matter how small or insignificant. Once we were working in his areca farm, we got areca plucked from his farm and were transporting it back to his home. He was there at that time, called one of us and said, “Look, in this 23 areca nuts do not belong to our farm, they have got mixed with ours by mistake. You drop them immediately back to the farm next to us as it belongs to them”

In another instance, a politician from Bangalore wanting to show off his affection towards Gurunatha had sent about 20 chairs in a vehicle. Gurunatha called the driver, who had brought them, offered him food. Giving him some money and fruits he said, “See please tell your minister, these chairs belong to me. As there is no space to keep them here I am sending them back. I shall take them whenever I need”.

Gurunatha was so strict in this matter that financial and material matters aside, he would even refuse to accept namaskarams if the feelings/emotions were not pure.

Sakharaya Patna was in between plains and hilly region. Rains always played hide and seek. Once there was prolonged summer and the conditions were very hot. One of Gurunatha’s relatives with the intention of saving Gurunatha’s farms wanted to implement drip irrigation in his farm. No matter how hard he tried he was unable to convince Gurunatha. Gurunatha always wanted to preserve the nature and its natural balance. He was even opposed to digging wells. To the proponent of drip irrigation Gurunatha said

“The one who has given the farm (God),knows how to save it, doesn’t he?” within days of this conversation there were incessant rains and a cool climate prevailed. Gurunatha asked that person

“Now, did you bring this water or did your drip irrigation?” The proponent of the drip irrigation did not have an answer and just silently bowed to Gurunatha.
