Chapter 131 : A
rose laden path
Recently, a devotee from Mudigere
had come to know that I am writing a book about devotees’ experiences with
Gurunatha and was very anxious to share his experiences. He was very happy that
we were able to meet and started sharing his experiences.
He said, “Sir, we are basically from
Malenadu belt and this incident happened about 9 years ago. We were building a
house. I was standing at about 9 feet height trying to erect a wall. My
sister-in-law who was helping me shouted suddenly for help and started crying.
After enquiring I came to know that she has been bitten by a russel viper(a
venomous snake found in India). That day as my luck would have it neither my
brother nor other relatives were in town. We rushed my sister-in-law to a
hospital in Chickmaglur. She was losing consciousness we were trying to keep
her awake by splashing cold water at her face. I was assuring her that
Gurunatha will take care of us, simultaneously offering my prayers to him. I
called up a friend in Chickmaglur to make arrangements at the hospital. After
about 2 hours journey we reached the hospital and the doctor who attended her
told us that he cannot comment about her survival for about 7-8 days. We became
even more anxious now and we desperately wanted to meet Gurunatha. I called up
one of my relatives.
Fortunately, I was able to meet
Gurunatha in Chickmaglur itself in a devotee’s house. After I updated him on
the incident he gave us two betel leaves and asked us to do something. He also
assured us that there was no threat to her life and she will survive. This came
as a huge relief and she recovered in about 2 weeks’ time thanks
to Gurunatha’s grace.
Generally speaking we are not
related Gurunatha in any way and we don’t have anything that we can offer to
him. But still he stands by us in all of our difficulties and guides us through
them. My eyes fill with tears whenever I think of his compassion.
Later he told me.. “You were very
lucky to be next to him almost all the time, why don’t you share some of your
experiences?”
A small incident that happened in
the year Gurunatha left this world came to my mind immediately so I started
recounting that experience. I had a fracture in one of the toes in my leg. I
had ignored it for a long time and continued my service to Gurunatha with a lot
of grit. But, it did come to Gurunatha’s notice that l was in unbearable pain.
So, he asked me to visit a doctor in Chickmaglur. He called a devotee from
Chickmaglur and asked him to arrange for the doctor’s visit. When I was about
to leave Gurunatha gave me a rose and said, “Your work will be done quickly,
go. Call that person (another devotee)..”. When I reached Sakharaya Patna bus
stand I called that person. Surprisingly he was on his way to Chickmaglur from
Kadur and picked me up on the way. Had I traveled in a crowded bus there was
every chance that my injury might have worsened. He took me to a doctor in
Chickmaglur, X—Ray was done and some medicines were given. He even dropped me
back to Gurunatha’s house in his own car.
I enjoyed my work at Gurunatha’s
residence even in that pain till Gurunatha was there and after. I am deeply
indebted for keeping me so close to him for so long. There is nothing in this
world that can match Guru’s compassion. I finished recounting my experience
with those words.
