Chapter 121 : Above
religions
Sadguru does not belong to any
caste. While being among the worldly subjects he does not come under their
influences. Once Gurunatha was returning after meeting the seer of an advaitha
peetham in a car belonging to a young devotee from Chickmaglur, he asked the
car to be stopped near a small road side shop. The shop belonged to a Muslim. Gurunatha
got down and drank coffee from that shop. Though he asked others to drink as
well, none of them except the car owner did so.
A few months later when Gurunatha
was traveling with the same young devotee the car tyre burst. Just when they
were thinking where to look for help, about 4-5 Muslim youths came and changed
the car tyre. As the car owner did not have any money he offered them some
fruits. Gurunatha gave them some money.
Just when they were about to start
their journey again, a Muslim lady from a nearby house came running and spoke
to Gurunatha with folded hands. She said, “My son is a lorry driver, please
save him from any danger”.
Gurunatha told her “you shall not
worry, in another six months your son will become a lorry owner”. She insisted
that Gurunatha should visit her house and should accept something. Gurunatha
agreed, had glass of water from her blessed her and left. Within six months as
Gurunatha had said, her son bought a lorry.
In another instance, a student who
had failed in Engineering came to Gurunatha and requested for a remedy. Then
Gurunatha asked him to bring a pen, a pack of biscuits, a pack of incense
sticks and pack of cigarettes.
The student asked him why they were
required and asked Gurunatha to repeat the list and this time he would write
them down. Gurunatha laughed and said, “You have seen me, that’s enough, you
can go now”.
The youth from Chickmagalur who was
standing next to Gurunatha due to his closeness asked Gurunatha “Sir, what did
you say just now?”
Gurunatha jokingly replied.. “I will
beat you” and closed the conversation.
In another instance near Mangalore
as Gurunatha was on the road talking to his devotees, few workers who were
digging the road and had setup tents nearby walked in and offered their
respects to him. Gurunatha blessed them and told them he will come and have
food at their house sometime. One of the workers wondered aloud ‘How that would
be possible, as we are from a lower caste’.
Gurunatha pointing to his
janivara(sacred thread) said, ‘lsn’t this the difference between you and me?’
With those words he took off his janivara threw it away, walked to worker’s
tent had some food there blessed them and left. (Hindu tradition mandates only
Brahmins should wear the sacred thread and they should always wear
it).
