Chapter 80 : Who can control nature

Gurunatha loved and worshipped the famous advaitha peetha. He used to visit "the peetha whenever he got a chance and also asked most of his devotees to do so. The seer on the throne of the peetham was also very affectionate towards Gurunatha. Gurunatha used to keep a close watch on the happenings at the math. Once an elephant that belonged to the mutt was in “musth” (intoxicated state of a male elephant) and had become very violent. lt lied down on a bridge for hours not allowing anyone to come near it.

Getting to know this, Gurunatha sent a few things through one of his devotees and asked them to be splashed on that elephant. A few hours after it was done, the elephant came under the control of the mahout and started obeying his orders.

Within a few days the same elephant wanting to break free from the shackles started trumpeting aloud. On hearing about this, Gurunatha sent me along with a few items including some turmeric and kumkum (vermillion). I was asked to throw these at the elephant. Sensing my fears Gurunatha told me “Don’t panic, the elephant won’t hurt you” before I left.

When I reached the math, I directly walked into the elephant stable, met the mahout there and explained him about what I was going to do. I sprayed what Gurunatha had given me at that elephant which was still trumpeting. lnspite of an assurance from Gurunatha I had my fears while doing so. Within a few minutes the elephant became normal again.

In another incident, due to incessant rains in its catchment areas river Tunga was flowing above the danger mark near the town where advaitha peetha is situated.Getting to know about this from one of his devotees who stayed nearby, Gurunatha instructed the devotee to offer a few things to the river. Within a few hours after it was done the water level receded and the river started flowing about 5 feet below the danger mark.

There are many such tales of the governor of the world who could control rains, winds and other elements at his will, used only as an act of benevolence.
