Chapter 76 : In the form of birds
A couple from north Karnataka used
to come to Gurunatha’s house; on each of their visit the couple used to bring
their local flavored food like jawar rotti, curries and sweet dishes. They loved
sharing their staple food among other visitors who had gathered and sometimes
even with those walking along the road in front!
During one of their visits while in
conversation, Gurunatha asked them to perform a GanaHoma(a ritual with fire
meant for lord Ganapathi). The couple sat there Gurunatha never mentioned they
could leave. It was around 10.30 pm and it was the time of departure of last
bus for the day from Chickmaglur towards Bangalore. All of a sudden Gurunatha
called the couple and asked them..
” What are your still doing here?
You should start immediately and finish the ritual by tomorrow”.
“It is 10.30pm the last bus towards
Bangalore is coming; there will be two seats in the front row meant for you. If
the God wants he will get the ritual done by you.. you will not be able to do
much on your own” with these words Gurunatha sent the couple.
When the couple came to the bus
stand they saw the bus arriving, got two seats in the front row also as Gurunatha
had told them. The couple was pondering over to arrange a priest to perform the
ritual within a matter of hours. Just when they reached their home, one of
their distant relative who had not visited them for quite some time showed up
with one of his friends. During the course of their conversation the couple
told the visitor about their visit to Sakharaya Patna, Gurunatha’s instructions
to them and their urgent search for a priest to perform the ritual in the next
few hours. The visitor told them his friend who had come along with him was a
priest and can perform the ritual and he will be able to cook . Like this all
arrangements seemed to happen by themselves and the ritual went on as scheduled.
The couple was relieved and realized Gurunatha had made all arrangements on
their behalf for the ritual. During Purnahuti (the final step in the ritual,
where food items,
clothes, coconut and various other
offerings are made to Lord Agni) the couple saw two birds sitting on one of their
windows and flew away after sometime. This reminded them of Gurunatha’s words
that he will come and see the ritual in the form of birds and they were
overcome by emotions offering their gratitude towards Gurunatha.
