Chapter 48: Misuse of boons
Gurunatha was adept at giving boons
as well as controlling how those boons were used. Gurunatha’s relative had and
a relative in an adjoining district. One of his family members was trying hard
to make ends meet. When he met Gurunatha and explained his problems, Gurunatha
had given him some Siddhis (Siddhi is a supernatural power to accomplish some
specific task).
He waited till Gurunatha left this
world and later added ‘Avaduhta’ to his name. Not only that, he started suggesting
unnecessary yagnas and other rituals to people who came seeking simple
solutions. Basically, he started doing everything that Gurunatha was opposed
to. As a result, he could not finish many of the yagnas and has become debt
ridden and is in great financial difficulty now.
Gurunatha used to tell.. “When you
people are in difficulty you come seeking solutions put all your worries on me
and leave, but when you are doing well do you even remember me? Do you ask me
for permission when making mistakes or committing sins?”
There was a person in Shivamogga
district who knew a little bit of astrology and he was making a living by doing
small time predictions for people. He came to Gurunatha once to seek solutions
for his own problems.
His prayers moved Gurunatha,
whenever he came again Gurunatha used to get some sugar and coconuts and gave
them to him after touching. This person made good use of the boons bestowed
upon him, whenever someone came to him seeking solutions to their problems he
used to give them some portion of sugar and coconuts touched by Gurunatha.
Probably this went on till Gurunatha left this world.
Also, Gurunatha once told a lawyer
“You have done your job long enough, now you shall do the job I give you”. As
Gurunatha had desired the lawyer has left his profession and is now waiting for
next instruction from Gurunatha.
“Guru is not a physical person but a
pure thought” is what Gurunatha used to tell.
