Chapter 50 : Controlling rains
For our intelligence, mind and body
to get dissolved in Guru probably our karmas (good and bad deeds) should get
reduced to zero by the grace of Guru or we should have an abundance of good
deeds from previous lives. But, in some rare difficult circumstances a firm
devotion can make it possible.
It was harvest time near Kalasa,
suddenly the rain started pouring in. it was not rainy season also. My brother
who was growing only one crop per year, though very anxious prayed to
Gurunatha, “Guru if all this yours, please save it”. The next day till he went
to fields along with laborers it was raining. The rain stopped as soon as they
started work. Cloudy weather gave way to bright sun shine. But, the sun shine
lasted only till the paddy was harvested and the paddy sacks reached home. It
poured heavily again. In other instances, once after Gurunatha left this world
while separating paddy from grass it rained for a few minutes and stopped, also
once when cleaning the roof tiles rain gave respite for five days till we
finished work and continued in the same manner as it had started earlier.
Another incident happened when
Gurunatha was around; I was famous for my stubbornness and ego. Gurunatha had two
houses; the back yard of the outer house was used for stacking grass and crops.
Once the grass stack fell off all of a sudden, as it was the beginning of the
rainy season it had to be restacked otherwise all the grass would become wet
and decompose. It had become cloudy when we started the work. We had to carry
the grass bundles some distance climb over the loft on the next house and
restack them and only two of us were on the job.
The fear of rain pouring in had
gripped us; Gurunatha was also not in station. Slowly the rain was starting. My
friend working with me told me .. “ You can do it, just think of Gurunatha and
try stop the rain”. I thought about it for a while, then made a loud chanting
and stood still. Within a few minutes the rain stopped. Friend came and thanked
me profusely.
After sometime the news reached
Gurunatha also. He had said “We should not fight nature like that”. Whenever I
remember this incident it reminds me of Gurunatha’s words,” See, your behavior
which makes you think I am with you, though I am physically miles away from you
is the real concept of Guru”.
