Chapter 70 : The little Doctor
He had just finished his medical
degree and wanted to go abroad for further studies and a job. He came to know
about Gurunatha who used to visit his town often. During this time he had also
applied for an entrance exam for a foreign university. Being an ardent devotee
he used to follow Gurunatha’s instructions diligently. When he came to seek Gurunatha’s
blessings just before the entrance exam for a foreign university according to
Gurunatha’s instructions he stayed at Gurunatha’s residence for about a month
without changing his clothes or probably not even taking bath for about a month
he led a simple life almost forgetting that he was a doctor. On the previous
day of the examination he started from Gurunatha’s residence reached the exam
centre which was out of state, wrote the exam and came back. This was followed
by an interview as well. Though he had not made any preparations for the exam
owing to high fever, he stood first for the whole country. The interviewer who
took his interview had praised him that he had not seen any other candidate in
his long service who had given so many correct answers so confidently.
About this incident Gurunatha had
once told me “It was not him, but me who wrote the exam that day”. Later on the
doctor did further study abroad and went on to become one of the eminent heart
specialists in the world. Gurunatha’s mother was very affectionate towards this
doctor and was always used to refer to him as the ‘little doctor’. One day on
hearing this, Gurunatha jokingly told her
“Do not call him ‘little doctor’
anymore now he has become a big doctor (specialist)”.
Whenever you leave all possible
outcomes to him and submit to him with a feeling of surrender, he will take care
of all your needs is best illustrated by this incident.
One of Gurunatha’s distant relatives
was studying Engineering in Chickmaglur and used to frequently visit Gurunatha’s
residence. Once Gurunatha suggested to him that he should stay in his residence
and continue studies. The boy agreed and was studying as well has helping with
other chores in Gurunatha’s house during his free time. Once during his final
exams Gurunatha asked him to go somewhere regarding some work. When the boy
told him about his exams, Gurunatha told him the college shall do a special
exam for him, he should go and finish whatever work was asked of him. The boy
readily agreed and went on. Later on when he went to the college as Gurunatha
had said he was given a separate exam. The boy has completed his engineering
now.
Guru is very sensitive; he responds
to all our little wishes, anxieties and answers them. What is required of us is
the patience, faith and a feeling of complete surrender to him.
One hot afternoon, I was filling
water for livestock as usual; a young boy came in and asked me if he could meet
Gurunatha. Gurunatha was resting inside; I told the boy that if he comes back
around 4pm he will be able to meet Gurunatha. He became very upset and
impatient with my response and scolded me with bad words and went away. I just
ignored him and continued with my remaining work for the day. Later around 4 pm
Gurunatha was sitting in the verandah and l was inside. The boy came back and
just when he was about to enter the house, Gurunatha sent him back repeating
the same scolding he had given me earlier in the day when Gurunatha was
not around. It was my turn to be
surprised by what had happened.
