Chapter 78 : Beyond time

A little word called GURU can change the past, present and future and it is beyond the best of our reasoning and guesses. Once Gurunatha started towards Sringeri from Shivamogga in a devotee’s car. It was already evening and the devotee had forgotten to fill the fuel and he told Gurunatha about the same. Gurunatha told him not to bother and start immediately. When the car reached Bhadravathi the devotee saw a petrol bunk and took the car there but it was closed. Disappointed the devotee reached Tarikere the next town in a hurry only to find his friend’s petrol bunk had a ‘No stock’ board. At this point the devotee almost gave up hopes of reaching Sringeri as he had to cover more than 100 kilometers. Sensing his devotee’s thoughts Gurunatha said, “Let’s continue we may find another bunk on our way, everything shall happen as ‘He’ desires”. The devotee drove in a fear all along, thinking the car might stop in the middle of the forest that too at night. They traveled through Chickmaglur and were nearing Sringeri it was almost dawn when Gurunatha pointed the devotee to a light at a distance and said they may get some fuel there. It was a petrol bunk and they got fuel also. After the car was filled, Gurunatha looked at the puzzled devotee and spoke “How did the car come here without any fuel? Who brought it till here? It can only be the ‘God’ is it not”?

The devotee who had seen an event firsthand that was beyond the science and logical reasoning was lost for words.

In another incident, a devotee traveled with Gurunatha from Sakharaya Patna to Bangalore. He was a state government employee. As soon as they reached Gurunatha’s relative’s house in Bangalore, the devotee told Gurunatha that there was a state level seminar planned in his office that day and it was inevitable that he had

to leave to attend the seminar. Gurunatha told him it was ok for him to leave but he should leave around 8.30 am and he should get some breakfast for Gurunatha before he left. The devotee got some breakfast as advised and waited. Around 9.30 Gurunatha asked him to bring some more breakfast. It was 11.30am now and the devotee though restless was silent. Suddenly Gurunatha looked at him and started shouting..”You say you have seminar, you should have left by now, you should be more responsible towards your job, leave now and when on your way you should take today’s newspaper along”. A bit confused the devotee left the place and reached his office. He met his office boy on the way who informed him that today’s seminar had got cancelled and his superiors had gone out for a tea. Devotee signed his attendance register and the rest of the day went on as just another day in office.

There was a young boy who stayed about 20 kilometers away from Sakharaya Patna and he used to visit Gurunatha’s house on a regular basis. Once one of his friends came to him and expressed his desire to meet Gurunatha. The duo started towards Sakharaya Patna with about 1 litre of petrol in their car fuel tank, thinking they would refuel at Sakharaya Patna. Luckily Gurunatha was in town. As soon as they entered Gurunatha’s residence, Gurunatha looked at them and said, “You have come at the right time, I was on my way for Guru darshana, let us go in your car”. The boy had never spoken against Gurunatha before so he hesitated to tell him about the need to refuel the car. Just before leaving Gurunatha asked for a glass of water and he kept it on the car dashboard. The car started on its journey towards Sringeri. The worried boy drove the car in the fear that it might stop on the way. They finished Gurudarshana and returned. Once back Gurunatha made the boy drink the water kept on the dashboard and sent them back to their native. The boy was still wondering how they managed to travel about 180 kms without any fuel. How did the water in the glass not spill along the curves during their journey? Not able to find a reasonable answer he has decided now that he can only attribute these to Gurunatha’s grace.
