Chapter 61 : A vanilla farmers tale
Once a builder from Bangalore had
come to see Gurunatha, his brother had an untimely death at a young age and
from that day he was facing a lot of misfortunes.
Gurunatha thought for a while before
replying to him and said, “The time in which your brother has died is not an
auspicious one. So you are having these difficulties. You should immediately change
your house and move somewhere else”. That person nodded and went back. But, on
his return he thought how could he leave his own house and continued staying
there ignoring Gurunatha’s advice. His wife was pregnant at that time. She gave
birth to a baby that was suffering from paralysis and had white patches on the
body. He continued to stay in that house in spite of that and his difficulties
only increased with time. After battling various ailments the child died at the
age of fifteen.
In another instance a person from a
place near Kalasapura had grown vanilla worth crores. He was in constant touch
with Gurunatha. Once he suffered severe chest pain and was advised to undergo
an operation as he seemed to have a hole in the heart.
When he wanted to meet Gurunatha and
was coming to Sakharaya Patna, he met Gurunatha on the way at Chickmagalur.
Gurunatha was waiting to greet a seer from a mutt near Sagara and he was
standing drenched in rain. Gurunatha asked him a simple question.
“Do you want crores of rupee from
Vanilla or do you want life?”
Without any hesitation he said
“life”. Gurunatha made that person perform pada puja to the seer and asked him
to offer “bhiksha” (an assortment of various grains and other eatables.)
Once he finished those rituals
Gurunatha advised him to leave immediately and get further tests done at Bangalore.
While there he seemed to have a series of coincidences. The doctor’s name he
met started with ‘Rama’. There was song about Rama being played in background
while he was undergoing tests. The seer that he had met on the previous day
also had a name starting with ‘Rama’. The tests concluded that he could be cured
by medicines and no operation was necessary. He has made a full recovery and is
leading a healthy life now.
