Chapter 24 : Person
walked again after 3 years
On that day, l was coming back from
the fields after my day’s work I saw a car coming and a person being carried
over into Gurunatha’s house. Gurunatha had two houses, one of them was occupied
by him the other had three portions. One of the portions was rented out and the
other two were vacant. If someone came to Gurunatha having hardship, financial
difficulty they were made to stay in one portion and their problems would get
resolved. If someone came with family related problems, they were asked to stay
in another portion. I came to know that this person could not walk for close to
three years even after many treatments for remedy. I saw Gurunatha giving that
person something and assuring him that he will be able to walk. It must have
been 2-3 hours after this; I could see that person walking back out of the
house on his own without any help.
If someone came complaining about
depression and anxiety they were asked to spend some time in the cowshed behind
the old house. I saw a similar incident on a day which happened to be
Gurunatha’s father’s death anniversary. Just when Gurunatha was walking out
after finishing the rituals of his father’s ceremony a famous singer who used
to frequent Gurunatha’s house walked in. She had been told she was suffering
from rare disorder. The doctors had told her they may be able to control it but
may not be able to cure it completely. A bit shaken, she had come seeking Gurunatha’s
blessings and asking for a remedy.
Gurunatha asked us ..” Give me a
dhoti”, when we gave one, he quickly changed into that and threw the one he had
worn earlier at the lady. “keep it always with you, let me see how you will get
ill” said Gurunatha and walked away. Till date she is leading a healthy life.
But, there were also instances when
people did not benefit from their visits thanks to their own indifference. Once
a wealthy man came to seek Gurunatha’s advice from Bangalore, after patiently listening
to his problem and suggesting a solution Gurunatha requested him “On your way
back, you will find a beggar asking for a ride.
Please take him along, his company
shall save you from an accident. Also, do not return via Hassan but go through
Kadur instead”. Taking Guru’s word lightly or being egoistic about giving ride
to a beggar in his car he started his journey towards Hassan. He met with a
serious accident on the way.
“’Guru’ is like fire, don’t take him
or his word lightly, you might get burnt” were Gurunatha’s words which this
incident reminded me.
