Chapter 30:  400 years old sandals

There was a great mystic/yogi in Banavara called Krishna Yogendra who lived '| about 400 years ago and performed great sadhana and he had achieved Sajeeva Samadhi(achieved only by great yogis, they stop their body functions while being alive, ensuring the body does not decay for thousands of years as the life force does not go out of the body, can be after or before being enclosed as instructed to his followers.) Gurunatha used to visit there regularly and used to send his followers as well. Once he had called a devotee residing in Arasikere a nearby town and had told him “We should search for the Padukas of Banavara Yogindra at the hilltop where lord Srinivasa, the family deity of yogindra resides.”

A little later, he said, “The padukas are present in a place called Chikka Tirupati, go and request the authorities there, you shall get help in finding them”. When searched the padukas were present in a corner on the loft. These are still being worshipped in a devotee’s house in Arasikere.

In another instance, I used to fight with Gurunatha for not solving my problem about my job. He called me that night and asked me to visit Shivamogga. To show my displeasure I had not eaten on that day. Had refused to eat though Gurunatha himself requested me to eat, later he served food himself saying “Your body is not yours but mine, I need not have your permission to feed it”. As I had seen Gurunatha’s affection, I accepted the plate though still angry.

I stayed at one of the devotee’s house in Shivamoga. That night I had a dream, “I had seen the padukas near a stream close to our house, when asked Gurunatha told me they are related to you”.

Next day, I got up and started toward Sakharaya patna I met Gurunatha in Chickmagalur and discussed with him about the dream. He instructed me to go to advaitha peetha and request for a set of paduka.

That was busy Navaratri time at the peetham, in spite of that; the seer gave me a set of padukas immediately on request. Gurunatha had fulfilled my inner desire of having a paduka at our house like this.

Later I asked Gurunatha about the significance of Paduka puja, “To keep us grounded, to keep us humble always” was the simple answer I got.
