Chapter 64 : A treasure in Gurus house
Here is an incident that had
happened before this Charanadasa was at Guru’ house. However Guru himself
narrated this incident to me.
A person called Puttappa used to do
some chores at Gurunatha’s house. Once he was digging a small hole near the
room where Gurunatha later spent his last days. While he was busy digging
Gurunatha came to him and said, “You will get some gold coins where you are
digging at so much depth. You give me a couple of coins for puja, and keep the
rest with you.”
Puttappa got the gold coins as he
was told. However without informing anyone he fled the place. Knowing all this,
Gurunatha was silent and never mentioned this to anyone. A few months later
Puttappa came crying and surrendered to Gurunatha, he begged to be taken for
work again. Gurunatha agreed to that without a word. Later when Puttappa spoke
to me we came to know what had happened. When he was away two of his daughters
had come under a lorry and died. He faced various difficulties from the day he
got the treasure. For a long time, he kept on crying ..
”One should never get any treasure
in their life”.
This was around 2006-2007, an ardent
devotee of Gurunatha had sent her daughter to a college in Chickmagalur from
Sakharaya Patna and was doing her daily chores. Just then Gurunatha called her
up and asked her to offer some sugar and milk at the nearby Shiva temple. She
hesitated saying.. she was still doing her daily chores and had not taken bath.
“Do as I say now, otherwise I shall not be responsible for what happens.. thundered
Gurunatha”. Without uttering a word she went to the Shiva temple and the nearby
grave of a sanyasi offered some flowers, sugar and milk.
Just about at the same time her
daughter had a miraculous escape from a fatal accident in Chickmaglur. The road
normally having heavy traffic had only a few vehicles that day; this can only
be attributed to Guru’s kindness.
Just when her mother had finished
performing the rituals as instructed and returned home she got a call about her
daughter’s accident. The girl recovered from injuries and is now working in
Bangalore.
A week before Gurunatha left this
world, the same girl had fallen ill due to food infection and was rushed to a
private hospital in Thirthahalli. Getting to know about this over phone,
Gurunatha had suggested a remedy and the girl quickly recovered. Her mother had
called Charanadasa to inform about the recovery, on hearing this.. Gurunatha
smiled and asked
“Why.. would she not prepare for me
a sweet dish and bonda (a fried item)?” The lady promised she would as soon as
she returned to Sakharaya Patna. But, Gurunatha cryptically told her it was
enough if she gave it to Charanadasa. The next day, Gurunatha finished his
worldly journey leaving all of us orphaned.
A few days later that lady with
tears in her eyes made the sweet and fried dish and offered them to me as per
Guru’s words.
