Chapter 19 : Always behind you to protect
Once Gurunatha had sent about 18 of
us to Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, " we were supposed to visit the
tomb of one of the senior most seer of the parampara(lineage). We started our journey
by train, Gurunatha called us enquiring
about our safety and well being
every few hours. We paid our respects to the seer and started our return
journey by night train.
As we were settling down in our
berths we got a call from Gurunatha. He alerted us about a man who was sitting
in front of us a little distance away. He said, “That person is not a traveler
but a thief, try sending him away”. On checking with him about his ticket it
turned out to be true, he did not have a seat in our compartment and we sent
him away. A few minutes after we got another call this time he said, “a
traveler will get hurt and bleed profusely, keep some first aid handy” we did
as instructed.
Later that night, I heard a man
scream in pain after his finger got stuck while adjusting the window pane. He
was bleeding and crying for help. He was attended to by one of the devotees and
was able to continue his journey.
“Once you call him Guru, all your
worries will be his and he will be by your side always taking care of you” used
to be our Gurunatha’s words and this incident illustrated it so well.
In another instance, I was
accompanied by another disciple who had made good strides in his sadhana. We
were traveling towards Bangalore in a car which belonged to a devotee couple. Suddenly
we heard an unusual sound in the rear wheels of the car. There were no garages
in sight and it was dark. Just then we got a call from Gurunatha after checking
about our wellbeing he asked “You are hearing a noise from the rear wheels of the
car isn’t it?” After that he immediately hung up and called us again in ten
minutes. This time he told us “See the sound must have stopped now” and he was
right. Looking back I feel there cannot be a single thing in the world which
goes unnoticed by Guru.
Similarly, once a lady called from
Bangalore, she said, “My son has got board exams today and he is suffering from
severe neck pain”. When Gurunatha enquired about the call I told him about the
problem to which Gurunatha simply nodded his head and appeared to refocus on
what he was doing earlier.
Later that morning we walked towards
the Shiva temple and sat near the peepal tree. A few minutes later, Gurunatha
reminded me about the call and asked me to bring some leaves. Once I got the
leaves he asked me to make a paste and apply it on his neck. Out of my sheer
ignorance I questioned him, “How is it possible that I apply the paste on your
neck and that boy’s neck pain will get cured?”
Gurunatha replied with a smile,
“Fine, let us see what happens if you apply it on your neck, shall we?” I applied
the paste on my neck and l was skeptical about anything happening at all. In
about half an hour the same lady called again thanked Gurunatha profusely as
her son had recovered and was able to write the exam. I was astonished on
seeing such a unique skill.
