Chapter 20 :  In two bodies

There was a small group of women in Sakharaya Patna who used to recite Soundarya Lahari (Devi shlokas attributed to Adi Shankara) everyday. Gurunatha had a practice of visiting these houses where the recital took place and distributing flowers and fruits and blessing the devotees who had gathered over there.

Once Gurunatha had gone to Bangalore, the lady of the house where he stayed had recently read a book called ‘Yogiya atma kathe” (Autobiography of a Yogi) where in one of the chapters it is described, a saint could be present in two bodies at different places simultaneously. She was skeptical about that and asked Gurunatha if that was indeed possible.

Gurunatha asked the lady to call up one of the houses where Soundarya Lahari recital was taking place and check if Gurunatha was present there. She rang up a devotee’s house in Sakharaya Patna while Guru sat before her smiling.

The lady who answered the phone on the other end said, ”Gurunatha just gave us flowers and fruits and he is walking back, should I stop him, would you want to talk”? Surprised the lady conveyed to Gurunatha what she heard from the other side. Gurunatha smiled and asked her to hang up.

Through this, Gurunatha had cleared her doubts forever about what she had read.

In another instance, Gurunatha had been suffering from an outbreak of blisters all over his body and could not even walk. At a famous Datta temple about 3 and 1/2 hrs from Sakharaya Patna Gurunatha was seen requesting the organizers of an event not to serve the prasadam prepared that day as it had been contaminated. Organizers there were indifferent, “We have prepared food for close to about 2000 people and we do not have the time to redo it, how shall we believe it is poisonous?” asked one of them. Then Gurunatha suggested they can feed stray dogs and see what happens and left the place. Dog that ate the prasadam fell ill and food was not served to devotees.

One of the organizers later on realized that, in the confusion they did not even have the courtesy to thank Gurunatha as he had averted a big accident waiting to happen at their ashram. He traveled for about 70 kms to visit one of Gurunatha’s relatives and asked about Gurunatha’s whereabouts.

Surprised on hearing this, they told him, “It had been weeks since Gurunatha was confined to bed having boils. He has not left Sakharaya Patna for weeks and it is impossible for him to travel till here”. That person was astonished on hearing this.

“Almighty Guru alone who is all pervasive is capable of pulling off these miracles, isn’t it?”
