Chapter 9 : Blessing the polio boy

There was a doctor couple from central Karnataka, many people in that family were Doctors by profession and the family was doing well. They had a daughter and a son; their son did not make any attempts to move around even though he was already 3-4 months old. The couple visited many doctors wondering why the baby could not crawl or even turn around. Once they heard about Gurunatha, they came to him seeking help.

After consoling the parents Gurunatha told “Because of this child your family would reach new heights.”Wait patiently till he attains the age of 16 years 7 months and 13 days, he will attain divine powers said Gurunatha. Later Gurunatha visited their house once and saw the child sleeping on a mattress without any sheets. He asked the lady to bring a red cotton saree and use it as a spread for the baby. The lady replied neither she nor other ladies in the family wear cotton sarees and wondered where she could get that. Gurunatha told her, there is a red cotton saree in a suitcase on the upper loft she should go and search. To her surprise she found the red cotton saree exactly as she was told. She made the baby sleep over it, Gurunatha blessed the baby and left.

Today the boy may be around 24-25 years of age, he is able to walk and as Gurunatha had predicted he has become a sanyasi and has become famous serving the society.

Once Gurunatha was in Bangalore, a rich couple from Mangalore had come to visit him. They had a son, their business was doing well. They had changed many places across Karnataka and were able to establish themselves wherever they went, started new ventures including a printing press.

That day the couple seemed to be very disturbed and restless. After waiting for some time Gurunatha asked them what brought them to him. The husband started hesitantly... “Sir, my wife is pregnant; we met with an accident while returning from Agadi Ananda Bhagawan shrine near Haveri. Wife has sustained injuries the doctors are telling us the fetus is not alive and we will have to get the pregnancy terminated. We are distraught; you are our only solace “with tears in his eyes.

Later Gurunatha visited the couple at their house along with some of his disciples who had studied Vedas and asked his disciples to chant Aruna Prashna continuously. After few hours the pregnant lady could feel some fetal movements in her womb. When she informed Gurunatha about this he replied, “Stop worrying about it from now on, name the child after Ananda Bhagawan” and left the place.

The boy is now probably studying in college and is doing well, Though Gurunatha had shown many miracles like this he was always quick to disassociate himself from what had happened and attribute these to Eashwara’s compassion. This conduct probably is the hallmark of a true Guru.
