Chapter 10 : A
Cure for Gurupatnis Ailment
As per Guru’s wishes I continued my
stay at his house and had an opportunity to witness many of those miracles
performed by him, I can only attribute this to some good deeds I might have done
in my past life.
A husband who had renounced
everything while leading what seemed like a normal family life, constant flow
of devotees, a son who was totally engrossed in his sadhana started to take a
toll on Gurupatni’s health. While she admired her husband’s sadhana, she
wished, if her son could lead a normal family life like others. Due to this
stress and work pressure, she felt exhausted and was confined to bed sometimes
having severe knee pain and giddiness.
Once when Gurupatni was unwell,
though she believed in the concept of Guru, she was skeptical about her
husband’s powers. Sensing her thoughts Gurunatha asked a doctor who used to
visit him to diagnose her. Though she was prescribed many types of medicines
the results were not encouraging. This went on for some time. One day Gurunatha
called me from a distant place and instructed me to take a saree which Gurpatni
had worn and hang it dry in open, later I was supposed to get two small packets
of sugar, get Gurupatni to touch them and leave them at a Muslim dharga near
the college and stand there with folded hands for some time.
I carried out those simple
instructions and within a short time saw her health improving. Though
effective, the remedies suggested by Gurunatha had no visible relation to the
ailments his devotees suffered. Only he could have explained their intricate
details.
Recently, I had an opportunity to
visit one of his disciples in Mysore. His eyes were filled with tears while recounting
those days and the affection Gurunatha had shown towards him. When asked about
an anecdote he said..
“Sir, our Gurunatha’s powers are
beyond words, though surrounded by so many people, each one having his own
thoughts, wavelengths and mental state, he had this unique ability to peep into
each of our minds and give answers/directions using our own words.”
Once when I visited him, he told
me.. “You should not attend any functions/felicitations for next three months”.
I was able to follow his advice for
about two months. Just before the third month was over I got an invitation from
the chief minister and a few other dignitaries and l was obligated to attend a
function. While there I reluctantly accepted the felicitation and was just
about to return to my seat, the podium collapsed. l was hospitalized with
serious injuries. Till this day, I regret my decision to go against his advice.
A deep sigh and silence followed.
