Chapter 97 : Ones conduct is his religion
Sadguru is born in a caste but
belongs to no particular caste. For him one’s conduct is his/her caste, a pure
state of mind is puja. Any devotee with a pure state of mind will be under his
care irrespective of his/her caste and creed.
Once at Gurunatha’s residence, a
person hesitantly came in, offered his respects and sat down. A little later Gurunatha
turned towards him and asked him what brought him there. He started saying
..”Master, though I have tried many businesses, I have not been able to settle
down. We have a flour mill but the income from that is not enough to meet our
expenses. I have debt of more than ten lakh rupees but have no house of my own.
Recently I have started making idols and selling them, but still not able to
make ends meet. I have come here to seek a solution from you for this.
Gurunatha after being quiet for
sometime told him,”The profession you have started now will make you debt free,
you will build your own house”. With these words Gurunatha sent him back.
As Gurunatha had said, that person
has become a famous sculptor in Tamilnadu today. Recently he constructed a
house and has repaid all his debts.
After his first meeting with
Gurunatha, he had kept a practice of offering the first idol he made every year
to Gurunatha’s house. Once Gurunatha visited his house and told him, “See, all
that a Guru looks for is pure devotion, I need to get a lot of work done from
you, when the time is right, I shall get it done, you need not worry”. Today,
even after Gurunatha has left his body he is getting many idols done from this
sculptor.
I happened to meet this sculptor
after Gurunatha left his body. He told me “Sir, thanks to Gurunatha’s blessings
l have everything today, he is guiding me at each and every step”. He was very
emotional recollecting those memories.
Guru is beyond time and physical
boundaries, he might guide his devotees even through their dreams.
A person from South Canara used to
visit Gurunatha’s residence frequently. Later I came to know that this staunch
devotee was married to my classmate. Once during one of his visits he told me
about his first meeting with Gurunatha.
“ As my family was not very
supportive, I could not study much. But, 1 formed a group of like minded friends,
learned Yakshagana (a folk theatre form mainly found in coastal districts of
Karnataka, it has vibrant and unique mix of music, dialogues and costume) and
started touring north India. This gave me a livelihood and made me famous. l
have learnt a bit of astrology also. I wanted to visit Ganagapura for a long
time. Also deep inside I felt I should also get a Sadguru. Once I went there
and was staying in a hotel. That night, I saw a bearded saint in my dreams.
Morning when l was in Narasimha saraswathi temple, I saw the same bearded
saint, the one who was in my dreams the previous night was standing before me.
As if we were already acquainted he gently tapped my head and asked me..
” You were looking for a Sadguru all
over.. Did you find one yet?”
Wondering how he came to know what I
was thinking I bowed to his feet that day. Today, I am leading a happy life
thanks to his grace”. With these words he finished his story.
