Chapter 98 : The savior
ness and offer yourself to him by
completely surrendering to him and your job is done. He Is not just a means of
solving your worldly problems and dilemmas but also a guiding light who will
impart the knowledge about eternal truth in you.
A lady, government doctor by
profession knew Gurunatha for quite some time though she did not know much
about the “Guru” in him. In spite of that, she used to regularly visit
Gurunatha’s house. Whenever she came she had a set of questions about her life,
family and other things. She would get answers from Gurunatha as from any
astrologer and return. Once Gurunatha told her she may get transferred to a
city starting with letter ‘H’. She feared she might have to go to Hyderabad.
Worried about leaving a family behind and working in an unknown city, she
devotedly prayed to Gurunatha. Later she was transferred to Hassan. Admiring
Gurunatha for letting people live their way and correcting them only if they
committed mistakes she slowly left her stubbornness and surrendered to Gurunatha.
She also decided, “A Guru is like
Eashwara, he is not just meant for our wordly problems”. Meanwhile, she had daughter who was studying
10th. Curious to know what her daughter’s results will be like she came to Gurunatha’s residence. Gurunatha
told her she may get more than 88%. Surprisingly she scored 99% and stood second for the state.
Later the same doctor had a
chickengunya attack and her knees were sore. When she came to Gurunatha’s house
she thought she should not be discussing these mundane issues with him. But,
when Guruantha asked her to be seated in front of him she started worrying, she
may not be able to get up easily. Sensing her thoughts, Gurunatha asked her
“You find it difficult to get up isn’t it?” She nodded. A little later she returned
back, surprisingly after about two days from that visit she never faced any
knee pain.
”A strong belief in Guru is all that
is necessary, we need not convey anything to him through words, he is omnipresent”
these were her learning from that incident.
Recently, she told me about another
incident which happened after Gurunatha left this world. Due to a misplaced
bone which happened all of a sudden she was not able sit down with her legs
crossed and the pain in her legs was increasing by the day. She had a practice
of being in Dhyana for long hours. Suddenly one day, in her Dhyana she felt
like she should switch on the TV When she got up and switched on the TV there
was an advertisement running for an ayurvedic medicinal oil that would relieve
joint pain. When she got the oil through a friend and applied it, within days
she was relieved of her pain.
Since we don’t have the power to
create we should not kill/harm any living being. All creatures big and small in
this world belong to Guru. These are best illustrated by the incident narrated
below.
A devotee, a native of Tumkur used
to come for Gurunatha’s darshana quite often. He had opened a school in
Bangalore but were now settled in Mangalore. One day, I got a frantic call from
his wife when l was standing next to Gurunatha. He looked at me and asked me
check what the problem was.
The lady explained, suddenly my
husband’s eyesight has decreased. His legs have become weak and he is struggling
to walk. The doctors have given some medicine but they are unsure of what has
caused the problem. Gurunatha who was quiet for some time called her up again
and told the lady her husband had killed about 200 cockroaches and his
suffering was because of that. He also assured them that he will recover,
suggested them a remedy and warned them against harming any creature in future.
Within a few months he made a full recovery.
A landlord from Malenadu belt came
to Gurunatha once. After offering his respects he explained his problems like
this. “ l was doing very well till recently, but now I have got huge debts.
Whatever income comes is not sufficient for our expenses. Meanwhile, two groups
of monkeys probably about 100 each, not sure where they came from, ruin our
crop continuously. He pleaded that he should be made debt free.
Gurunatha reassured him that his
debts will be repaid, and asked him to be thinking about Guru all the time.
After about 8 years like this
Gurunatha asked that person once, ”See if you don’t mind, shall I ask a question?
“
“Did you at any point of time kill a
monkey and hang the body in front of your farm?”
The land lord replied,” Yes, someone
told me that it will frighten the other monkeys and drive them away, so I did
like that”.
Gurunatha folded his hands, with
humility requested him not to do such a thing again. After some remedial steps
that person was able to repay his debt in stages and is leading a peaceful life
now.
