Chapter 100 : A job that is not ours...

One evening I was sitting with Gurunatha at his house, it was evening around 7pm. A visitor walked in with another person who appeared to be mentally unstable. I went inside and brought them some coffee. After they offered their respects and sat down, Gurunatha asked them what brought them there. The visitor started by introducing the person next to him.

He said, “This person is a Reiki doctor (Reiki, a healing technique of energy manipulation where in the therapist touches the patient and activates patient’s natural healing process to relieve him/her of their ailment). He has cured many ailments; he was doing well before he started his practice. Once he started his reiki practice he has become like this. Doctors say he has not got any problems and everything is normal. He does not take food and water and roams around like a disturbed person. I have brought him here as the last option”.

Gurunatha took the pack of bananas they had bought and kept it on his lap for some time. While giving back that pack he said “please throw this away in a stream on your way back, you will be alright, from now on you should not give reiki treatment to anyone”.

The person who brought him wanted to know what the reason for his current state was. In his reply Gurunatha said,

“A skill can be learnt by anyone, but one should be careful when treating others through it, if the patient’s symptoms start showing on the therapist it is better that he does not treat people, this person’s problem is also the same”.

It was heard later that he had recovered. On that day one thing became clear to me, If someone tries to do something that is not his/her work a disaster will be waiting to happen. If we keep this in mind, we would have already made a good stride in the path shown by Guru.
