Chapter 110 : Mystery

A boy used to visit Gurunatha’s residence from a town about 20 kms away. He was in some business. On the merit of his devotion and good conduct he had become very close to Gurunatha. Once a person in the guise of a saint came to his house, as Gurunatha had told him to respect all saints and hermits he offered his respects to him and made arrangements for some food and water. The hermit then said.. “I have to reach my ashram urgently, I don’t have a transport, can that be arranged?” without a second thought the devotee gave his own car and sent him.

A few days later, Gurunatha visited his shop and asked “you give away anything if asked by someone in the guise of hermit, should you not to think about yourself too?”

Due to his closeness the boy questioned Guruantha, “You were the one who taught me to respect saints and sanyasi, now how can you say this?”.

Gurunatha replied, “What you have done is correct, I was just thinking about you”.

A few days later, a lady came with about 60,000 rupees and wanted to give it to that boy. The boy hesitated and asked who she was and why she wanted to give money to him. The lady said, “I am the mother of the saint whom you gave your own car. Though I am not able to give you full value of the car, you must accept this”. Then the boy asked how she arranged that money, she said she pledged her ‘thali’(mangalya, a gold pendant) to get the required amount. Though it was a tough period for him financially, the boy refused to accept it and said she can return the money when she is in a better position.

In another instance, a known person came to this boy seeking financial help. The person said he was very badly in need of about 5 lakh rupees. He would return the money as soon as possible. Without having a second thought the boy helped him. Later the boy found himself in a tight spot with his finances. However the person who had taken money from him failed to repay and absconded. With no other option left, the boy came to Gurunatha and explained his situation. Gurunatha assured him, gave him two beetle leaves and sent him back.

Surprisingly, the next day the person who was absconding appeared from nowhere and gave him 5 lakh rupees, spent some time in his shop had coffee with him and left. But, afterwards that person was nowhere to be found.

The boy thought ...”Then who gave me the money, could that be Guru himself in disguise?” Unable to resolve the mystery the boy thanked Gurunatha and continued with his life.
