Chapter 109 : Attending to the needs of seers

Gurunatha used to show a lot of respect to the seers of various maths in the state. The seers also showed a lot of respect and admiration for Gurunatha. Gurunatha used to give directions to other sanyasis at the maths about their penance and he was finding out their necessities remotely and used to send things they would need, through his devotees even before they asked.

Once one of Gurunatha’s devotees was to sing in a concert at a famous shrine on the day of Durgashtami, the seer of the peetham who usually does not attend any concerts graced that concert and listened to him.

After the concert, the devotee came to Gurunatha and met him. Gurunatha told the devotee to meet the seer again and this time he has to carry 10 pens, 10 pencils, a soft hand kerchief and some jamoons.

The devotee arranged for all the items as per instructions went and met the seer and offered them to him. On seeing those items the seer was pleasantly surprised and called one of his attendants and said..

“See it is almost two weeks since I asked you to get me 10 pens,10 pencils and a kerchief. You still have not found time to do it, Avadhootha has sent me all the items, though I never asked him”

The devotee seeing the way his Guru was taking care of everyone around him by observing everyone’s needs through his inner eyes was filled with pride about his Gurunatha. However Gurunatha’s concern was not just limited to seers and saints he cared for all living creatures.

Once a boy from Bangalore went on a trip with four of his friends, though all other friends returned back the next night, the boy did not return, when asked about the boy his friends were clueless. The family approached Gurunatha. Gurunatha assured them and told them the boy would return by night 9pm the family should be reciting “Chandra shekara stotram” until then and once the boy arrives they should not question him about where he had been. The family agreed and did as instructed. The boy returned on his own around 9pm and nobody asked him where he had been. The boy has grown up now and is leading a happy family life.
