Chapter 101 : Governor
of the world
The word ‘Guru’ has got a profound
glory, mere reciting of the word can change your past, present and future. Once
you call someone a Guru, the relationship of a Guru-Shishya(disciple) will
continue for many lives.
A small family lived in a village
near Shivamogga. The family members were staunch devotees of Gurunatha and were
in constant touch with him. The family consisted of husband, wife, two children
and father-in-law. The mother-in-law had passed away on the day of Gauri puja,
so that festival was not being celebrated in that house. The elderly
father-in-law had a problem with his bodily balance and Gurunatha had told them
about a problem of blood circulation in his brain and had even suggested a
remedy.
A few months later during a morning
walk, he lost balance and fell down. The impact of the fall resulted in broken
hip joint. Though he was operated he could not walk on his own again. The
doctors found a problem with the way surgery was done. But, he could not be
operated again at his age. With about a fortnight prior to Gowri puja he
slipped into a comma like situation.
In the hospital he was describing
his strange experiences to his daughter-in—law. On one such occasion he described
accepting a piece of cloth from Jagadguru. A few days later he was shifted back
to his house.
One day he described an experience
of meeting three Sanyasis and doing them pada puja(washing their feet.) He was
in a semi conscious state. He described having seen a date of 6th repeatedly
and said it will be his last day. When this was discussed with Gurunatha,
Gurunatha suggested that the family should just keep quiet and should not react
to what he was saying. Later, Gurunatha even made a visit to his house along
with other disciples. He stood outside and asked the disciples to go inside and
chant various sukthas. The day of Gowri puja arrived and he was made to sit
where his wife’s shraddha karma(death anniversary) rituals were being done. The
next day, on the day of Ganapthi puja he suddenly remembered about his wife’s
death anniversary and asked the family why they had not done the necessary
rituals. The family tried their best to convince the rituals actually took
place and he attended them.
Just a day before the next chauthi
(one month from the date of Ganapathi festival) Gurunatha called up and told
the family they should not go anywhere out of their house and they should be
next to the ailing father. The next day a few hours after Gurunatha had called,
their father was no more. As per Gurunatha’s instructions body was bathed in
milk and new clothes were put on it.
At about 11pm in the night Gurunatha
reached there. He said “Your father has been sent where he was to go, now you just
finish these rituals as stated in Shastras (scriptures explaining rituals)”.
“Your father’s death was decided to
be on the day of Ganesha festival, you were already not celebrating Gouri
festival because of your mother’s death on that day, now if your father were to
die on Ganesha festival you would not have two major yearly festivals, So, I
granted an extra month of life to him” with these words he left that place.
The family was in tears thanking
Gurunatha’s kindness who postponed a death so that it would not affect the
celebration of an important festival for his devotee.
